Removable prosthodontics is not a relic of the past — it's a field where digital technology improves quality, precision, and patient comfort. From designing frameworks in CAD to 3D printed complete dentures.
A removable prosthesis is often the only option for a patient. The quality of design, material selection, and precision of fabrication determine whether the patient will wear it — or keep it in a drawer.
Removable partial dentures are technically and design-wise demanding restorations. If the design is poor, so will be the force distribution, material strength, and overall functionality of the restoration.
A combined crown is a hybrid: one end has an aesthetic part for the patient, the other adapted for use with a removable partial denture.
Denture material is not a matter of 'preference'. It's an engineering decision. The wrong material for a given clinical scenario = frequent repairs, unhappy patient, loss for the lab.
An overdenture is a compromise: a removable prosthesis (patient removes it) + stabilization on an implant/implants.
The wax try-in is your last opportunity for correction before the material is cured. After curing = a lot of work (milling, burnout, acrylic pouring). If something is wrong at the try-in stage, it's better to fix it now.
Printing a denture offers the possibility of:
The patient says: 'I can't go without teeth for 3 months.' – and they're right. An immediate denture is a denture that the patient receives on the day of tooth extraction (or the day after).
The occlusal scheme dictates how denture teeth interact during mastication. A poor scheme results in denture instability during chewing (lateral forces displace the base).
Allergies can arise in two scenarios:
The patient thinks: "It fit well, why not repair it?" — they're right from a financial perspective, but sometimes a new denture is a better investment.
